What is child sexual exploitation and trafficking?

Child sexual exploitation occurs when a a child (under the age of 18) is involved in a situation or a relationship where they are being used sexually and the child, or a third party, receives something for this such as money, gifts, affection or favours - such as giving alcohol, food or shelter.

Child trafficking involves the movement of children from one place to another, within a country or across a border, for the purpose of exploitation. It is believed that child trafficking primarily takes place for the purposes of forced labor or sexual exploitation. Alternative forms that have been reported include domestic servitude, armed conflict, begging, performing, child marriage, adoption and the organ trade.
